A Danish court ordered a 12-day prison sentence Saturday afternoon for Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen's attacker, state media broadcaster DDR reported.
Copenhagen police pressed charges against 39-year-old Polish under Article 119 (1) of the Penal Danez Code on violence and threats of assaulting a person in public service or office at a hearing at the Fredericksberg Court. The prosecution said the man pushed the prime minister from the course by punching him in the right arm.
During the preliminary hearing, the accused was accompanied by an interpreter who translated the session into Polish.
According to the arrest report, there is the possibility that the accused was under influence during the event, since at the moment of his arrest he was missing, hibernation and resentment. The report said 39-year-old has recognised the prime minister through social networks.
At the preliminary session, the accused was acquitted and said he was the pleasantly surprised “when he saw the prime minister and denied any resentment against her, adding that he thinks she is a “prime minister really good”.
The accused said he did not remember much of the episode and was at the scene to enjoy Friday night.
Copenhagen police, after the hearing, said they have found no political motive after the attack and called it a spontaneous “act”. / AA
