Weightlifter Oleksandri Pielesenko, who represented Ukraine at the Rio 2016 Olympics, has died during the conflict with Russia.
The 30-year-old had joined the military shortly after Russia began its invasion in 2022.
Oleksander had died defending his country, the Ukraine National Olympic Committee said.
He won the European gold medal in 2016 and 2017, and barely missed a medal at the Rio Olympics. He was later stopped after failing a doping test in 2018.
Another Ukrainian athlete, Vladyslav Hercevych, said that more than 400 Ukrainian professional athletes have died in the war.
