Congresswoman Ritchie Torres has reacted after NATO's Parliamentary Assembly approved Monday the recommendation for advancing Kosovo's status from observer member to associate member.
He has enjoyed this news, until he has said he will continue to commit to Kosovo's full membership in NATO.
I am pleased to see that the Republic of Kosovo has advanced to an associate member of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. It has been too long for Kosovo not only to join the parliamentary assembly, but most importantly, to eventually be a full NATO member. There must be more to remember my words that I will continue to postpone their full involvement in NATO”, Torres wrote.
Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani has thanked member states that have approved the advancement of Kosovo's position and has said the future of the country leading it is in NATO.
This decision will ensure that the voice of the most proding people will be heard - NATO around the world. We will continue our efforts, together with the Allies, to advance on our path towards membership in NATO”, Osmani said through an X post, the platform previously known as Twitter.
NATO's Parliamentary Assembly is institutionally separate from NATO, but serves as an important link between NATO and the parliaments of member states. It consists of 281 delegates from all 32 NATO member states.
