The Paris City Council has increased the price of entering the Eiffel Tower to raise more money for the restoration of the tower, as the company operating this famous architectural building is losing by next month, adult tickets will be 20 % more expensive.
To get the elevator to the top of the tower, visitors now pay 29,40 euros, but on June 17th it will cost 35,30 euros. The Paris City Council also backed the recapitalisation of the Eiffel Tower operator Sete, and cut the annual fee that charges the operator to run the tower.
The Sete company has been in financial trouble since the Pandemia-19 who saw the number of tourists visiting the tower and lost revenues of 120m euros in 2020 and 2021. Last year, the number of visitors increased to nearly 6 million, after falling to only 1.5 million in 2020. The high costs of renovation and the recent strikes blocking the city were a strong blow to the company's financial situation.
The tower's author, architect Gustave Eiffel after building the tower in 1889, recommended that it be reliced every 7 years to avoid its rust. So far it has been reliced 19 times, and since 2010, the 300m-high tower has not been fully painted. /Albinfo
