The action took place in Germany, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Lebanon and Kosovo.
These controlled centers were reportedly identified as sources of thousands of fraudulent calls a day.
Deceiters used a wide range of tactics, ranging from false cries to convincing investment fraud.
“Pandora” reportedly started thanks to a attentive employee at a bank in Freiburg when a client tried to withdraw over 100,000 euros in cash in December 2023, the employee became suspicious and learned that the client had been the victim of a fraud by false police officers.
According to EUROOPOL, the person in question was found to have carried out more than 28,000 fraudulent calls over 48 hours.
Police then set up their call center to deal with frauds:
Since December 2023, over a hundred officers were placed in the Baden-Wurtemberg State Criminal Police Office and secured the contents of over 1.3 million fraudulent telephone conversations.
In just four months, police recorded more than 70,000 and 500 calls, which prompted authorities to launch criminal proceedings.
Overall, “the official call center” has managed to prevent financial damage for victims in over 80 percent of cases, which means ten million euros worth of damage have been prevented.
This international co-operation led to the arrest of 21 suspects and the seizure of cash and one million euros worth of cash. /Kankosova/
