If in the first round no one gets the necessary majority, the second round goes to the two candidates who have won the most votes in the first round.
The second round of voting is held on the 14-day deadline since the end of the first round of voting, in this case 8 May. For president, the candidate who has received the majority of votes will be elected if more than 40 per cent of registered voters, either 725.727 electors, originally in the Electoral Code, have appeared in the vote, while 362,864 voters voted for him.
If in the second round neither of the two candidates has received the necessary number of votes, the entire selection procedure is repeated.
The president of the Republic is elected in general and direct elections, by a secret vote, for a period of five years. For president of the Republic the same person can be elected twice at most. The president of the Republic should be a citizen of the Republic of Northern Macedonia.
For president of the Republic, the person who has turned at least 40 on Election Day can be elected. For president of the Republic, the person who has not been a resident of the Republic of Macedonia in at least ten years in the past 15 years cannot be chosen until election day. The election to the president of the Republic takes place in the last 60 days of the former president's mandate.
