“Spectres of solidarity from all levels of society” meant that he decided to stay in office, he added.
A series of demonstrations were held throughout Spain over the weekend, demanding that the prime minister continue in his post. More than 10,000 people gathered in front of Socialist Party headquarters (PSOE) in Madrid, in support of the prime minister.
“Thanks to this mobilization, I have decided to continue leading the presidency,” said Mr. Sánchez, pledging to continue the <x2 most powerful if possible”.
This isn't about the fate of a leader it's about deciding what kind of society we want to be. Our country needs this self-reflection. We have left the mud to tarnish our public life for a long time”, he said, BBC reports, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
The charges against Sanchez's wife, Begona Gomez, were brought against her by the Manos Limmias (Pastra Hands), led by a man bound to the extreme right named Miguel Bernad.
On Thursday, Madrid's public prosecutor called for the investigation to be closed for lack of evidence. Manos Limpias also acknowledged that the charges could be inaccurate, because they were based on stories of online newspapers, one of which has already proved false, .
In his speech, Sánchez also acknowledged that his statement announcing his decision to take time to reflect may have been “disturbing”, but said that “there are cases where the only way to move forward is to stop, reflect and decide how you want to go. ”
