UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres is the first to speak at the meeting for Israel, saying the Middle East is on the verge of a full-scale devastating conflict.
Guterres reminded member states that the UN Charter “bans” attacks on the territorial integrity of states and “the progress of inefficiency” of diplomatic and consular personnel “must be respected”.
It's time to pull back from the threshold. It is vital to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations at numerous fronts in the Middle East. Civilians are already carrying the burden and are paying the highest price”, Guterres said.
We have a common responsibility to actively engage all parties interested in preventing further escalation. We have a common responsibility to secure an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, immediate and unconditional release of all hostages and unhindered relief distribution”
“We have a common responsibility to prevent violence on the occupied West Coast, de-scaling the situation along the Blue Line and restore safe navigation to the Red Sea. We have a common responsibility to work for peace. Regional peace and security, and indeed global, are being undermined every hour. Neither the region nor the world can afford any more war”, Guterres said, writes Al Jazeera, broadcasts Klankosova.tv.
