Report “Freedom House” for 2023 it has estimated that Kosovo's general freedom of speech and expression is somewhat limited.
The international organisation's report, titled “Nations in Transit 2024”, points out that there have been incidents and disturbing trends in Kosovo during the year 2023.
“Gasers and media faced a series of other obstacles, from security concerns in the tense north of Kosovo to the government's frequent slander campaigns, attacks by businesses and repeated threats to social media”, the report notes.
Among other things, the report mentions the vote in Luljeta Aliu's Parliament for a member of the Independent Council for Media, where Freedom House named Ali as a “open support for the ruling party and in line with its” policies.
The Freedom House report has cited as a disturbing fact even the suspension of the media license clan Kosova.
“This move sent a frightening message to the media in Kosovo, prompting the European Centre for Press Freedom and Media (EPCMF) to warn other media instead of dealing with the same limits”.
The independence of the Media in Kosovo has been estimated at 3.25 points the same as in the past year, on an estimated scale of 1 to 7 points, where 1 is the lowest degree of media independence.
