At all polling stations in four municipalities in the country's north today, the election process is being monitored by cameras.
This is the first time such cameras are being used in a Kosovo vote.
On 11 April, the Central Election Commission had indicated that placing cameras within polling spaces is in order to provide electoral materials and preserve the integrity of the voting process and count the vote.
“On election day at polling stations from the election processes from 2009 to 2021 have recorded irregularities that have affected integrity, Kosovo and public confidence in the elections. By 2009-2021, 36% of the polling has been recounted”.
“Set up cameras will be made by fully obtaining the secret of the vote. Maintaining camera registration will be temporary until the destruction of the election material, which by law takes place within 60 days after the Certificate of results”, Valmir Elezi, media spokesman at the CEC, had said.
