Current fines for traffic offenders are stiffened

From today the new Law on Road Traffic Rules will begin to be implemented, since the Law has been voted in Parliament and decreed by Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani in 11,03.2024.

Lack of seat belts, wearing the other person's lap while driving, crossing in full line, using the mobile phone while driving, and car racing are just some of the actions of drivers expected to be punished much more severely than with the old Law on road traffic regulations.

Under the new Law, which was published in the Official Journal in 19,03.2024 and entered into force in 03.04.2024, it is estimated that the penalty for those who do not put the seat belt is 150 euros.

Failure to belt safety with the previous Law was punishable by 40 euros in fines.

On the other hand, the new Law forbids the driver of the vehicle to hold someone else on his lap, including children, which the Old Law (current) had not specified. The new law has envisioned the 400-euro fine penalty, the pronunciation of 5 negative points, and the ban on driving for six months if it holds someone else in its lap.

The new law also saw convictions for drivers who are making a full-line breach. The fine for the move will be 200 euros, the pronunciation of two negative points and a 3-month ban on driving. The old law had envisioned fine sentences of 100-300 euros, 3-6 months ban on driving and 2 negative points.

No phone use is allowed in driving.

The Law for Road Traffic Rules has provided this. If a person uses the phone during the same driving, he will be fined 100 euros and pronounced a negative point.

If the same act of phone use is repeated for the second time, the driver of the car will be sentenced to 200 euros in fines and the pronunciation of two negative points and the driver will be banned for three months. And if for more than two times the driver has used the phone, he will be fined at 500 euros, three negative points will be pronounced and the driver will be banned for six months.
