Ukraine's president has dismissed the country's commander-general of armed forces, Valerii Zaluzhnyi, from office.
This comes after speculation of a rift between the president and General Zaluzhnyi, who has led Ukraine's war efforts since the beginning of the conflict.
The dismissal will be formalised by a presidential decree, writes the BBC, records Periscopi.
The move marks the biggest change in Ukraine's military leadership since Russia's invasion in February 2022.
Zelensky said the top command should be “restored” and that General Zaluzhny could be “delivered to the team”.
Starting today, a new leadership team will take the lead in Ukraine's Armed Forces,”, he said on Thursday.
President Zelensky said he and General Zaluzhnyi had a “honest talks” for the necessary changes in the military and that he thanked the general for protecting Ukraine from Russia.
Mr. Zelensky later announced the appointment of Colonel Sirsky as the new army chief. /Periscopi
