Secretary Blinken says he knows very well the issue of the Balkans, especially Bosnia and Kosovo, from what they have experienced during the 1990s, where he further points out that the only way to move forward is through EU facilitated dialogue with US support.
“When I started working in the UN and the White House, already about 30 years ago, the challenge that was until the end was the Balkans. Initially it was Bosnia and Herzegovina and then Kosovo. So many of us have a long and deep history and who more than President Biden and you know very well. So we are people who have this notion that we cannot go back, we cannot have a repeat that is likely what many people have experienced during the 1990s. That is why we are committed to sending money to the integration of Western Balkan countries with each other and to Europe”.
“As far as Kosovo and Serbia are concerned specifically, the EU facilitated dialogue is the only proper path and we are committed with all that we can support both countries so that they can cross this path. But I also want to congratulate Albania's role because it has been a force for regional stability and regional progress. This is the path that clearly brings to a better future. We are self-aware of what the alternative is, because we have seen and therefore are determined to do everything we can to support all countries in the region to take this path and to support dialogue from the EU.“, Blinken concluded.
