The Kremlin has dismissed Yulia Navalnaya's accusations that Russian President Vladimir Putin stands behind the death of her husband, Alexey Navajo.
Navajo, the leader of Russia's highest profile opposition, died in prison on Friday. Days later, Navalnaya published a video message saying “Vladimir Putin killed my husband”.
CNN asked Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov to comment on her statement during a call with reporters Tuesday.
“
“Of course, these are absolutely baseless accusations against the head of the Russian state. But since the Navajo became a widow only a few days ago, I will refrain from commenting”, Peskov said.
CNN also urged Peskov to comment Navalnaya's comments that her husband's body has not been returned to his family, because “ta are waiting for Putin's future traces to disappear there”.
Peskov replied: “To be honest, I'm not familiar with this speech, but if there were words like that, then this is nothing but baseless charges”, he said.
Because they're not related to anything, they're not confirmed by anything. In this case, only for ethical reasons, I can't properly appreciate those words”, Peskov added.
Asked separately whether Putin had seen Navalnaya's video message, Peskov said he had not seen it.
