The United States has expressed concern over the failure of the Central Election Commission (KQZ) to certificate Serbian List candidates for the planned elections on February 9th.
In a response given to Reporter, US Embassy in Kosovo stressed concern “with the actions of several members of the Central Election Commission. ”
“We are deeply concerned with the actions of some members of the Central Election Commission (KQZ) not to certificate Republika Srpska List candidates. The CEC's actions should strictly be limited to implementing standards and legal procedures, and any decision to disqualify candidates should only be based on equal law enforcement. The electoral process should be transparent, reliable and without political interference”, Says the U.S. Embassy response.
The US Embassy also expressed concern over the involvement of politically motivated criteria in the CEC's decision-making process for the certificate of candidates.
“We are concerned by the open involvement of politically motivated criteria in the process of certificate of candidates in the CEC. Such actions undermine the fundamental democratic principles of free and fair elections, since they open the door to the subjective political influence on the election process”, It says further in response.
In response, it was further stressed that “all candidates who qualify should be allowed to compete in free and fair elections in accordance with Kosovo law. ”
We remember that the Serbian List failed to be certified at the Central Election Commission, Online Economics reported, while the reason for this was reported to have been Serbian List Chairman Zlatan Elek's nationalist calls.
