Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci is expected to declare this Tuesday in connection with the new indictment he received from the Special Court, allegedly for “obstructing justice”.
At the December 8th session on the issue, Thaci had said he had no chance of reading the Special Act for “obstructing justice”, while allegedly allegedly having filed the new indictment against him for political reasons.
I was informed of the new ZPS charge, just two days ago. I know that Kosovo is on the verge of election, but I am not part of the electoral race. I present no political threat to anyone. I believe and respect the laws of Kosovo and ask all to respect the constitution of Kosovo”, Thaci said during the special session.
The current four-year-old “faces another judicial process and we have heard misinterpreting assessments of Kosovo's freedom and independence. Kosovo society and I await justice, for which we also believe in justice”, the former president said.
Thaci is accused of trying to obstruct official persons in carrying out official duties, by participating in the joint action of a group.
According to the indictment, Thaci “, in April 12th, 2023 to November 2nd, 2024 during visits to custody, has provided confidential information to witnesses of the Special Prosecutor's Office Isni Kilajt, Smajt Union, Fadil Fazlius and Hajredin Kuci”.
“Thaci co-ordinated three separate groups, formed with Mr. Smakaj, with Mr. Fazliu and Mr. Kilaj, and other people against whom no charges have been brought, as well as Mr. Kuci, aiming to influence the evidence of SPS witnesses in the context of the current war crimes trial Thaci and others”.
Pos Thaci, the indictment has also been filed with the Smajt Union, Fadil Fazlius, Isni Kililt and Hajredin Kuci for attempting to obstruct official persons in carrying out official duties.
In the indictment, the suspects are accused of criminal acts linked to allegations of unlawful efforts to influence witness evidence in the trial of alleged war crimes Thaci and others. /Ap
