Former Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj has reacted to recent developments in the Middle East, stressing opportunities open to Kosovo to advance the process of international recognition. He has remembered that during his mandate, the Arab Spring was used to secure significant recognitions from countries like Kuwait, Egypt, Libya and Yemen, building new reports with the Arab Sunite states.
Hoxhaj has stressed the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime as a strategic opportunity for Kosovo to overcome Iranian influence in countries like Syria, Lebanon and Iraq. He has criticised Kosovo's current government for lacking a stance and for its passive strategy regarding the process of recognising the state of Kosovo.
Kosovo's “Diplomacy must be derived from the self-imposed mortorium and use the current moment to expand international recognitions,” has declared Hoxhaj, suggesting recognition of Syria's provisional government as a strategic step.
