His associate received a parole sentence of 26 months. They did not comment on thefts, including in the Steinmair Post Office of Zurich, reports “Blic”.
The case was clear after the accused pleaded guilty. The judge told them they could do better than “break something”. They have families in Kosovo to care for.
“We don't want to see you here anymore if you want to commit crimes”, the judge said as he handed the verdict.
In addition to prison sentences of four years and parole sentences, the accused were also sentenced to expulsion. One of the accused, aged 50, has been barred from entering the Schengen area for 10 years, while 46-year-olds for six years.
The main suspect was involved in stealing the Steinmaiur post office of the Cyril canton. He was also present at the break-in or attempt at breaking ATMs in Reinach, Thun and Heimberg, as well as in Willars-sur-Glane and Murten.
Accompanied only in Reinach and Murten were present. He could have left prison, but has been deported to Kosovo.
The lead author stole 455,285 francs in SteinMaur in 2015. In this process, he or an associate also damaged postage stamps worth almost 25,000 francs, tickets and highway villas with a fire device, allegedly to cover the tracks. In total, he and his associates robbed 1.2 million francs and 100,000 euros.
The authors have acted extremely brutally during thefts, as the judge noted. During the trial, the accused have called “error” the fact that this has resulted in damage to over 275 thousand Swiss francs. They dug a hole in the wall in the post office and opened a safe.
In Heimberg and Thon, they broke a ATM. In Reinach, where they stole 407,560 francs and 74,890 euros, they broke a wall to reach the back of the bankomat. Even where they failed, as in Willars-sur-Glane, the material damage reached over 66,000 francs.
Procedures are cut. That means the accused had agreed with the prosecution and defence proposals for the sentence and had admitted the crimes.
In court, they refused to remember why they had committed the crimes. One even said that he came to Switzerland in 2015 “for a walk”. Then he returned several times until 2022.
Both claimed they had high levels of debt. They apologized and promised that they would stop performing such acts. One thanked the judge and wished them Merry Christmas.
