“We have received numerous reports that North Korean soldiers are preparing to participate in military operations alongside Russian forces”, Syrsky wrote on Facebook on Saturday.
He made these comments after a conversation with Christopher Cavoli, the senior American general who leads the US European Command.
Syrsky said the situation on the line of the nearly 1,000-day war front with Russia remains a difficult “and shows signs of escalation”.
The South Korean Intelligence Agency and later American authorities said 3,000 Korean troops had arrived at Russian training bases in early October, and as many as 12,000 soldiers nearly four brigades could eventually be sent to the conflict in Ukraine.
A senior Ukrainian diplomat said their shift is being led by three generals and about 500 officers.
Ukrainian Army intelligence has reportedly equipped Korean soldiers near the Ukrainian border with combat weapons, including assault rifles, anti-tank missiles and grenade launchers.
Yet, there are still doubts about the Korean war skills and what impact their presence will have on the battlefield. /Radio Europe Free
