Four people, including two children, have died after a ship carrying immigrants touched some underwater rocks near the island of Samos, Greece, causing the shipwreck, officials said on November 28th.
Sixteen people were rescued, but it's unclear how many people were aboard the ship.
Greek coast guards have launched rescue operations, including patrol ships, rescue ships, and also teams on land seeking to find a potential immigrant who escaped shipwreck.
This is the second deadly incident within this week involving shipwreck of immigrant ships in Samos.
On Monday, November 25th, eight immigrants -- six children and two women -- died after a ship sank off the coast of Samos.
Samos Island and other Greek islands east of the Aegean Sea are important transit points for immigrants who pass from Turkey to the European Union. The arrivals of immigrants in recent months, according to Greek authorities, are related to wars in the Middle East and parts of Africa. /euronews. al
