The Israeli Army is preparing for the possibility of Hamas' terrorist attacks to mark the anniversary of the October 7th 2023 attacks.
International Israeli Defence Forces spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Nada Shoshan told reporters that Israel would implement additional security measures throughout the country on Monday.
“We know that Hamas has a tendency to prove and conduct terrorist attacks on these types of symbolic dates... and that is why we are preparing for this, adding forces to the south and preparing for such a thing,” he said.
Shoshan added that Hamas had launched rockets from Gaza to southern Israel on Sunday, a day prior to the anniversary.
Asked by CNN about Hamas' capabilities to continue issuing these missiles to the south and Tel Aviv, Shoshani said the number of deployed missiles was “rendence dramatically”.
“Hamas had tens of thousands of missiles. Hezbollah had about 150,000 rockets. So even though we have great progress, there is still a way to go. We've seen the figures drop dramatically. The amount of missiles issued by Gaza in Israel has dropped dramatically”, he said.
Israeli military says it has surrounded Jabalya in northern Gaza and launched a new ground operation after seeing signs of Hamas' reconstruction there, despite nearly a year of fighting and devastating attacks on the territory.
Shoshan said Israel is opening two evacuation routes for people fleeing the new operation.
