Italian ship “Books” that transport immigrants from Italy as part of the agreement between prime ministers Edi Rama and Georgia Melon.
The ship is still a few miles away in anticipation of the remortem to make its escort into the port of St.
The Rama-Melon agreement is the first example of a non-EU country that accepts immigrants on behalf of an EU country and has attracted the interest of other Western countries seeking to discourage the growing number of migrants coming from Africa, the Middle East and beyond, A2 reports.
The 2023 agreement with Albania envisions that irregular immigrants arriving in Italy will be shipped to Stryjin, where they will be identified and considered for asylum.
The centers will accommodate only grown men. People considered vulnerable to women, children, older ones, and those who are sick or victims of torture will be sheltered in Italy. Families will also not be separated. Those sent to Albania will retain their right under international law and the European Union to apply for asylum in Italy and address their demands there.
With any demand it takes about a month to process, the number of migrants sent to Albania could reach 360,000 in a year.
