However, Hezbollah's attacks on the militant group and the political party that control most of southern Lebanon appear to have caused no damage or casualties.
The Israeli Army said five shells were launched from Lebanon towards Israel, adding that most of them were hampered by Israel's air defence systems, meanwhile a rocket fell into an uninhabited space.
Israel said that at the same time, about 15 shells were launched from Lebanon to northern Israel.
Hezbollah has been declared a terrorist organisation by the United States. Meanwhile, the European Union has only the group's military arm on a black list, but not the political party. Hezbollah's party has seats in the Lebanese Parliament.
On October 22nd, Hezbollah said it has launched missiles against two key bases near Tel Aviv and a maritime base west of Haifa.
The missile attacks come at a time when Israel has intensified its attacks in Lebanon, targeting financial institutions led by Hezbollah, and as the US is trying to resume ceasefire talks in Gaza following the assassination of Yahya Sinwari, Hamas leaders, the Palestinian group declared terrorist organisation by the US and the EU.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to wipe out Hamas and return dozens of hostages held by the group. Hamas has said the hostages will be released when a long-term ceasefire is reached and Israel fully withdraws from Gaza and the Palestinian prisoners are released.
The war in Gaza began after Hamas killed about 1,200 people and kidnapped another 250 during the October 7th attack. Since then, more than 42,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as a result of the Israeli offensive.
Since the war in Gaza, Israel and Hezbollah have exchanged fire at the border. In early October, however, the situation escalated, and Israel announced the launch of an earthly operation south of Lebanon against Hezbollah. / REL
