The new American emissary for the Western Balkan region, which will deal with the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue process, Alexander Kasanoff, in an interview for the Serbian newspaper “Kurir”, has said that one of the reasons for his visit to the region is to prevent any possible conflict and find a way to move forward in terms of normalisation between Kosovo and Serbia.
Kasanoff has said he knows the situation is difficult between Kosovo and Serbia, but that work must continue to achieve a progress.
It is very important that we find a way to move forward in this dialogue so that we can move towards the progress of peace, in the sense of calm and normality between Kosovo and Serbia”, Kasanof has said of Kurir.
As far as Bosnia and Kosovo are concerned as two of the hot spots in the region, Kasanoff has said this is exactly why he is staying for a visit to the region. The American diplomat has said that unfortunately history teaches us that conflicts can spread despite the fact that we try to prevent them.
“However, this is part of the reason for my visit to this region, so I am talking to the governments of Sarajevo, Belgrade and Pristina, which is my next stop. The goal is to work together, prevent conflict potential and take real advantage of this moment, so to change the site of the bad episode from the past and prevent the conflict from spreading”, Kasanoff said.
