AAK seeks immediate action on Badovci's uncertain water

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has expressed deep concern over the quality of water from Lake Badovci. The opposition party stresses that long - term exposure to high levels of mangani can cause neurological and brain developmental damage, especially to children. “This situation poses a major threat to public health and requires immediate action,” said in AAK response.
The AAK also sharply criticises the lack of concrete actions on the part of CRU Pristina and the Government of Kosovo to prevent the repetition of this problem. “Water treatment at the Badovci factory continues to remain unimproved, especially in terms of the Mangan problem,” he stressed, adding that the lack of adequate planning and investment has contributed to the failure of this crisis.
The AAK raises important questions regarding institutional responsibility, calling for account by CRU Pristina, the Government of Kosovo and the Regulatory Authority for Water Services (ARRU). The opposition party requires immediate investment in new technologies to improve water treatment and long-term planning to avoid similar crises in the future.
PLOVATION:
According to reports by KRU Pristina and I KSHPK, the water from Badovci Lake is not safe for consumption due to high concentrations of mangani, a problem that was repeated at the end of 2022 and early 2023. However, neither CRU Pristina nor the Government of Kosovo have taken concrete action to prevent the repetition of this problem, presenting the situation as ordinary, as it occurs annually.
According to water quality experts, long - term exposure to high levels of mangani can cause neurological and developmental damage to the brain, especially to children, and negatively affect the function of liver and kidneys. This situation poses a serious public health hazard and requires immediate action to avoid further injuries.
Meanwhile, water treatment at the Badovci factory continues to remain unimproved, especially in terms of the mangani problem. The lack of adequate planning and investment has contributed to the failure to address this crisis, as no investments needed to avoid repeating such problems have been carried out.
In an effort to cope with this situation, CRU Pristina has begun to distribute water through auto tankers in some neighborhoods, a mass usually undertaken in emergency cases. However, for many residents, especially those living in apartments, this has created a difficult situation. Residents are forced to adjust their lives around water distribution times, experiencing constant stress and concerns. Daily encountering the challenge of carrying water and a lack of sustainable supply also creates uncertainty about public health, since lack of clean water for consumption and hygiene can lead to other health problems.
Some questions that require answers are:
) Why has CRU Pristina not taken measures to improve water treatment when the problem is known and repeated each year?
What has been the role of the Government of Kosovo, which has been constantly trumpeting that public companies are now managed by professional boards and management?
What Has Been the Role ARRU, as regulatory and independent authority, to prevent and prevent this problem from repeating itself?
The relevant institutions must take immediate action, including investments in new technologies to improve water treatment, continued quality monitoring and long-term planning to avoid similar crises in the future.
