FIFA President Gianni Infantino today condemned racist abuse of Milan's goalkeeper, Mike Maignan, in his team's victory of 3:2 at Udinese on Saturday, and called for stiffer sentences for clubs whose fans do the act.
Referee temporarily halted the game, and the French goalie left the field after calls with <x0).
A similar incident has occurred in the second English category. Saturday, Coventry City midfielder Casey Palmer faced racist abuse in his team's 2:1 victory at Sheffield Wednesday.
“The events that occurred in Udine and Sheffield on Saturday are disgusting and totally unacceptable”, Infantino said.
“We need to implement an automatic defeat for the team, whose fans committed racism and influenced the match to be abandoned, as well as the prevention of stadiums worldwide on criminal charges against racialists”, he added.
In a statement, Udinese expressed support for Maigna and condemned what had happened to her. Following the unacceptable events during the match against Udinese, Milan has decided not to post anything on social networks today in support of Mike Maygnan and the fight against racism. / ANSA
