Pensioners call for pension increase, criticise government for contempt

The chairman of the Association of Pensioners of Kosovo, Nijazi Gashi, said the country stands much worse than other states in the region, in terms of pension value.
In this regard, Gashi stressed that they have made several demands over the years in the Ministry of Labour and Social Management and the Labour and Transfers, but have been ignored.
In addition, the first by the Association of Pensioners of Kosovo requires the current government to adopt the pension insurance law, while showing the amount of how much pensions should increase.
Meanwhile, credit for adopting the bill, which lifts the condition that a pensioner has 15 years of working stages to benefit the payment pension, Gashi attributes the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo.
Otherwise, in July of this year, the current government adopted changes to the pension law, enabling pensioners who left their jobs in the years of '{0}'90s to benefit from a loan pension worth 260 euros. This new pension scheme for those who left their jobs in the years of BAR90s is estimated to cost the state about 60m euros a year.
According to the Government of Kosovo estimates, there must be around 70,000 people in the Kosovo government's planning of a basic pension who should really qualify for the transitional retirement of age. / KP
