At least 26 people died and others ended up missing after a ferry crashed into a lake in Nigeria on Sunday, local officials said, the second fatal tragedy in the country in three months.
State Governor Bologist Bologisthi Ibrahim said the boat was transporting over 100 people, including women and children, to the local state government area Mokwa.
The victims were going to their farms. “26 persons, mainly women and children, have been confirmed dead, more than 30 persons have been saved, while a rescue operation is under way”, Ibrahim said.
In July more than 100 people drowned when a overloaded boat was overthrown in a remote part of the same country in one of the worst disasters in years.
