Escobar called the request expressed by the Secretary General important NATO, Jens Stoltenberg last week, that Kosovo should be consulted in time with the Alliance “for any landing that could affect the security environment”.
This is a request, which is really important. KFOR has part of the responsibility to ensure a safe environment within, as EULEX does. Hopefully the Kosovo government will consider international community, and in particular NATO, as an important partner to consult and coordinate with. Absolutely so. And we will continue to ask the Kosovo government to maintain close communication with NATO and KFOR on the ground”, Escobar said in an interview for the Voice of America.
He said that “is very important to prevent any miscalculation”.
In Kosovo, none of the institutions indicated whether NATO and its peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR has new demands regarding sending special police to the north.
Chief NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, on Thursday after hosting him at a meeting in Brussels Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, said at a joint media conference that they should consult before “, however, the delegation” in the north.
“We expect consultations on any action of Kosovo security forces, the Kosovo Police, which may have an impact on security. Every Special Forces landing requires KFOR's approval and needs close consultation between Pristina authorities and KFOR”, Stoltenberg said.
