Albania's Prime Minister, Edi Rama, has since the crisis in the north, made numerous calls towards Prime Minister Albin Kurti to listen to American and European councils for de-scaling, warning that what awaits Kosovo will be very serious. Rama had also cancelled a joint meeting of the two governments because of the frustration of Kosovo's reports with allies, while Kurti had retaliated by not expecting him at the meeting during the visit to Kosovo.
The call not to leave the dialogue and fundamental agreement, Rama has reiterated it even in a recent interview from the United Nations Hall, where it also ran into Russia for Kosovo. The Albanian prime minister has also been critical of the language Kurti has used against Slovak emissary Miroslav Lajcak.
The chosen “road leads to a collision course with friends, allies and partners, instead of leading to the realization of common purpose. That's sad. But I have faith that this is temporary”, Rama said in “Real Story”
Calls to listen to allies have also made Albanian President Bajram Begaj, who spoke Friday during his stay in New York City in an interview for Voice of America.
Begaj has said that at the UN, Albania has expressed strong support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, which is facilitated by the EU and supported by the US as a strategic ally of Albanians.
He said there's no need for self-issolation, but for friends and support. Therefore, according to the head of the Albanian state, Kosovo must certainly be heard each recommendation given by the allies.
“We don't need self-issolation, we need friends, for support. So, of course, any recommendation given by our strategic ally must be heard. More needs to be heard by Kosovo politicians, those who are decision-makers. I would advise that, all Kosovo politicians, all Albanians, should understand that we have only one compass, that compass should lead us to Euro-Atlantic travel”, Begaj said.
While in the United States, President Bajram Begaj has also met with the US Emissar for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar.
Kosovo's report with the European Union has deteriorated deeply after the 14 September meeting, where Prime Minister Kurti, after leaving the meeting, has accused Slovak emissary Miroslav Lajcak of amending Serbia's demands.
A few days later at a media conference, Kurti has accused Lajcak of even lying about the work of proposals made on September 14th in Brussels and has said the Slovak emissary has co-ordinated with Serbia against Kosovo. All this nervous Kurti has prompted demands that Kosovo start first with the establishment of the Serb majority municipalities' Association.
Following these Kurt charges, the EU has issued a communique on behalf of 27 member states, where they have expressed strong support for Miroslav Lajcak. The American State Department has done the same, saying they recognise Lajcak's hard work for dialogue.
