Ukrainian MP: Unacceptable Vuciqi threat not to recognise Kosovo

The chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament's Foreign Affairs Commission, Oleksandr Merezhko, has spoken of a threat made by Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, that Ukraine not recognise Kosovo as an independent state. Merezhko has declared that it is sovereign right to decide whether to recognise Kosovo or not.
He said it doesn't belong to Vucciki to learn or threaten.
I'm sure it's our sovereign right to decide whether to know him or not. And it's not for Mr. Vuchy to teach us or dictate what to do or threaten us. It's absolutely shocking and unacceptable. As far as recognition is concerned, according to our Constitution, it is the preliminary of our president, because the president is responsible for developing foreign policy, including issues of recognition” -- he has said.
According to him, the recognition of Kosovo by the Ukraine Foreign Ministry at the moment is not considered reasonable as the issue. He has said that perhaps this means that a decision on this issue will be postponed until the end of the war.
Of course, politically and legally, it's a complicated issue. But at the same time, in our parliament, I want to stress this point, that parliament does not decide whether to recognise Kosovo or not, but at the same time there are some of my colleagues who are strong lawyers who express their support for the recognition of Kosovo, for me it makes sense” -- he said in an interview with the N1 media.
He has said that goods and bad laws must be taken into account before the decision is made.
Merezhko has said Kosovo was once in a similar situation like Ukraine.
“Ukrainian is currently exposed to genocide. Russia is waging a genocide war against Ukraine, and as I recall from the history of Kosovo, Kosovo was in a similar situation. There were so-called ethnic cleansing”- he said.
Merezhko had said on August 7th that Kosovo's “recognition from Ukraine is being discussed in Kiev”.
Ukraine's Ambassador to Serbia, Voldymyr Tolkach, has said on Tuesday that more and more voices are increasing in Ukrainian society for recognising Kosovo's independence, and that a certain number of MPs in the Ukraine Parliament are supporting the stance for possible recognition of Kosovo.
In a media communiqué on August 8th, Tolkach underlined that “is in particular important for Ukraine to respect and ensure the protection of international law standards from all states, especially in terms of territorial integrity and the availability of internationally recognised state borders”.
