While the left blames real estate speculators for lack of housing, the reason for the right is immigration. In particular, the free movement of people with the EU, which ensures that Germans, French and Portuguese easily emigrate to Switzerland, is causing the living space to become smaller, claims SVP, writes RTS.
A new study by the liberal think group Avenir Suisse shows that since 2000, housing prices have increased by 103%. And since the free movement of humans went into effect in 2002, a close bond would be obvious.
Researchers at the University of Freiburg took a closer look. They considered changing real estate prices in regions where many foreigners from EU countries have been living since the 1980s and compared this to developing in less migration regions.
