Havenier has reiterated that the US is concerned with the situation in the north and points out they have also asked Kosovo, but also Serbia to make decisions to move towards the de-pass.
The US diplomat has said that the US wants to avoid riots and threats of violence, things that prevent the US from working with the parties for full and at least implementation of the Ohrid Agreement by both sides.
So we're asking the Government to make decisions that help achieve the de-pass to the north. And we want to help achieve the de-pass north of”, Havenier said.
He has said that organising new elections for the four municipalities in the north has been one of the things that has been identified by the EU as something that would lead to the de-border situation.
We agree with this assessment”, Havener said.
He has already cited the Bislimi-Lajcak agreement reached in Bratislava, where Kosovo has pledged to prepare the legal framework for organising new elections.
We have welcomed this as a positive step towards de-pass. How elections happen is the internal issue of Kosovo. If this is done by the resignation of the mayors, or if it is done through this process where voters sign. There are different views of what would be more effective. We're just interested in moving the process forward”, Havener said.
