Because of the situation created in the north of the country, our fellow countrymen living and operating in European countries are choosing longer routes to their homeland, but safe.
The National Centre for Border Management has made known to Radio Kosovo, via electronic mail, that access to Kosovo has been added more to the “West” crossing in Morina, while the “Vervi” crossing point point at Merdar has marked a decline.
According to their statistics, it turns out that between 01.06,23-up on 03.07,2023 in Kosovo, 591 thousand and 636 people have entered. This is a drop compared to the same dates in 2022, where over 740 thousand people have entered through land border points in Kosovo.
Comrade Raj Islamaj lives in Switzerland. He says that because of the situation in the country and the government's call for border evasion in Merdar, it has come to Kosovo via Croatia, Montenegro and Albania.
I changed it because the government asked for it, and a friend of mine was with Kosovo documents, and we didn't want to go there for many reasons. I came through Croatia, we had a great time. The road was cut by 100km, and we entered Montenegro directly and safely. We've always come to Merdar or the White Land, and now it's coming back from Durres to Italy, with a training”, Islamaj said.
Fatmir Syla has been living in Germany with his family for years. He says he never goes through Merdar for security reasons.
“From Germany I've come 26, from Croatia-Slovenian Croatia, Montenegro, Albania, always prefer this road because of security. I was afraid there would be more flows because of Serbia's calls to avoid, but it's been all right and free, except in Montenegro that we've been waiting 10 minutes or the trip has been trouble-free and we've been through very well. Me for Merdar never travels, because of security”, Syla said.
The government days ago has called on the Kosovo diaspora to avoid border crossings through Serbia, due to the situation created in the country's north, to avoid any incidents, and using alternative travel routes.
