News that Kosovo has purchased the “Bayraktatar” has received foreign media attention.
International news agency, Reuters has written that “Kosovo has bought a range of Bayraktar fears of Turkish production”, adding that this comes “at a time when it faces unrest in the north, where ethnic Serbs refuse to recognise Pristina authorities”.
The article mentions that Prime Minister Albin Kurti has not announced the cost of the fears and what they will be used for.
The 15-year-old Republic is building an army aimed at eventually having 5,000 regular soldiers and 3,000 militias. NATO's military alliance also has more than 4,500 peacekeepers in the country with 1.8 million inhabitants, Reuters writes.
In past months, Kosovo has faced its worst ethnic violence in the north, where some 50,000 ethnic Serbs live, who are backed by Belgrade, are said further in the Reuters article.
Kosovo aims to join NATO, but four of the coalition members still do not recognise its 2008 independence from Serbia.
