The Kosovo Liberation Army Veterans' Association held Saturday protest against the minimum wage Law, which did not include that category.
The veterans' pension is equal to the minimum wage in the country, but the law that was passed Thursday evening is not included in the increase of veterans' pensions.
Who would have thought today almost 25 years after the war we would have come out here to seek once more our freedom and rights. Today they are not being denied by a terrible regime by Slobodan Milosevic, but by the state government for which we have given everything to”, Avni Ajjeti said from this organisation, calling on the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, not to sign the law. Veterans warned new protests if the law goes into effect.
The law on the minimum wage envisions its growth to 264 euros, ranging from 130 to 170 currently. If this law goes into effect, what is required for the signing of the country's president, veterans will continue to receive 170 euros in current retirement.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Saturday that the treatment of war veterans of the former Kosovo Liberation Army should be resolved by a new law and supports providing as many benefits for this category, but that benefits are not salaries.
“We are for the highest benefits for liberation war veterans, but these loans are not salary because the wages are for work, and the benefits are the gratitude of society, which is given to the veteran of the war for liberation which is in the source of our citizenship, independence and freedom of”, Prime Minister Kurti said.
The new law on minimum wage envisions changing the Law on veterans, as it says, by “until the final classification of the veterans' list, the government of Kosovo decides for the extent of the amount of pensions defined by this law”.
We're engaged to have a new law, but that's why we need the facts to be correct. I believe more than 6,000 participants were involved in the liberation war, but there's a triple of the veterans. So it is imperative that things be called by the names of”, Prime Minister Kurti said.
Protesters criticised, as they said, the government's scandalous <x0 actions”, while also demanding the resignation of the head of the parliamentary group of the ruling Vetevendosje movement, Mimoza Kusari dealt.
For several days, the National portal published several talks by Vetevendosje Movement parliamentary group chief Mimoza Kusari-Lila with representatives of the Serbian List, including the party's deputy chairman, Milan Radojcic, who is sanctioned by the United States for “including organised crime and corruption”.
The clashes over this issue led to physical clashes in Kosovo's parliament on Thursday, prompting concerns about deepening political divisions and polarising society in Kosovo. / VOA
