Police Director: There could be victims, we arrived in some form to ensure security

The situation in northern Kosovo differs from the rest of Kosovo because of long-standing specifics and criminal groups. Even management is not easy, but thanks to our police officers, we have won a long battle there. We have achieved in some form to ensure security for citizens and also to have access to our police officers around the Kosovo border with Serbia”, Hoxha said.

According to the Police Director, citizens of the northern part have begun to co-operate closely with the police.

He said Kosovo police did not perform ad-hoc operations, but analysed the situation and responded with professional operational plans. Hoxha also said that even on June 26th, police have implemented the Law and order of the Ministry of Management of Local Power to assist municipal heads to go to municipal facilities.

Hoxha also cited the fact that police were in the perimeter of municipalities, and that the continuation was endangered.

“Role and Kosovo Police and KFOR duties have been divided. Was there any danger? There was danger for everyone. But with the same crowds we have faced. Kosovo police have professionally managed to remove those crowds from the entrance of municipal objects and no damage to Kosovo police and citizens has been carried out. We cannot guarantee that there could have been serious casualties or consequences, but Kosovo police have been professionally prepared to carry out their” duties, Hoxha said.

The commander also answered the question of what day was most dangerous for the police, Friday when they were only Kosovo Police, or Monday when KFOR intervened, which was also attacked by violent Serb citizens.

“Monday, with the date of 29 criminal groups, has been prepared to attack both the Kosovo Police and KFOR. The role has been divided and then KFOR has taken on duty to secure the external perimeter of the municipal object in Zvecan, then it has come to the confrontation. Although there has been a long attempt at negotiating with leaders who have been leading the protest, unfortunately they have failed to find a consensus, so KFOR had to move on to create a corridor ahead of the municipality's object and then it has come to the throwing of Molotov cocktails, bombs and fellowbobs”, Hoxha said.

He said it has been a co-ordination of the Kosovo Police with KFOR, but KFOR has acted on its mandate.

” After KFOR commander, he has wanted to prevent an open conflict between police and violent protesters that day. This has been a decision by KFOR commander to be among police and protesters”, Hoxha said.
