European Federation of Journalists Secretary-General Ricardo Gutierrez has named the Ministry of Industry, Intervention and Trade decision (MINT) for suspending Klan Kosova's business certificate as a very serious decision.
I never understood how this happened, it's clear that you're operating in a very normal way, so we and other colleagues of other organizations were very surprised by the annulment or suspension of the business certificate. This is a very serious decision made by the government, because we believe that the government in no case should interfere with the functioning of the media, it may interfere if there is a very serious reason to do so, but in this case it was not like this”, Gutierrez said in Rubikon of Kosovo.
He added that MINT's decision appeared arbitrary and compared it to decisions made in states like Russia.
“We found it very difficult to understand why the government suddenly, without preliminary consultations with your company, made the decision to suspend the business certificate, and the reasons were not very clear and very serious, so there was no risk of your company causing any harm, you were just doing your job, you were informing citizens of the news in the state, so it was sudden and strange to us, it seemed like an arbitrary decision, like the kind of decisions made by Russia's government, Azerbaijan or Turkey. So my first reaction was this, I was very surprised and I didn't understand what was happening”, Gutierrez further said.
