KFOR's mission has come up with an explanation following statements by British MP Alicia Kearns, who has said there are weapons being smuggled from Serbia to Kosovo through ambulances and being downloaded to Orthodox churches. KFOR, in a response to Gazeta Express, says the “approach mentioned by the British MP refers to 2022 when the Royal Fusilier Battalion committed to northern Kosovo in support of the KFOR mission”.
On the other hand, they suggest that the case was reported in Staff.
The alleged specificness of illegal weapons was reported to KFOR's Staff, but after further investigations to find confirmation of this, no evidence of what has been reported is found, KFOR notes.
NATO's military mission points out that “has no evidence even about the alleged smuggling conducted through the administrative border between Kosovo and Serbia in Orthodox churches with an ambulance”.
According to KFOR, the issue of smuggling is Kosovo Police responsible.
For full information, this type of activity belongs to the rule of law, which is under the responsibility of the Kosovo Security Organisation”, they point out.
The British MP, raising security concerns in this part of the country, said the British government is aware of it as well.
“The government is aware, with Fusiliers [the British military regime] just back from serving KFOR, that there are weapons smuggling across the border from Serbia to Orthodox churches with ambulances. When our troops are aware of this and try to get permission to go and get them, the permits last very long. By the time she has an unexpected permit, there's been an ambulance but she's gone to church and fired all the weapons again”, she said yesterday.
