No truck with goods originally from Serbia has entered Kosovo territory since the Kosovo government has made a decision to prevent the entry of trucks with products and Serbian license plates to Kosovo two days ago.
“We have had no entry, is implementing security measures for preventing access”, Kosovo Customs spokesman Adriatic Stavileci said.
The Kosovo government, on June 14th, has decided to tighten border controls with Serbia.
That decision has been made following the arrest of three Kosovo Police members by Serb forces.
Kosovo considers the arrest of three police officials as kidnapping by Serbia's authorities on its territory. According to the Kosovo Police, police officials have been arrested in the Tresave/Bare, located in the municipality of Leposaviqi, within Kosovo's territory.
On June 15th, dozens of Serbian and Kosovo license plates were seen parked on the Serbian side of the Merdare border, as they were not allowed to enter Kosovo.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said Thursday that security institutions have tightened border controls with Serbia in response to the situation created following the arrest of three Kosovo police members by Serbian forces.
Prime Minister Kurti denied to have a ban on entering goods from Serbia, stressing that the measures “are not economic or commercial, but are security measures”.
Serbia is one of the five states that exports most to Kosovo.
Before the executive decision, within a day this state exports goods worth a million euros.
In the past year alone, goods worth 372m euros have been introduced in the local market, until Kosovo has sold products worth about 62m euros in Serbia.
