The event, according to the Kosovo Police, occurred Wednesday afternoon, when three border officials allegedly were kidnapped by Serb forces during a patrol at the site called Three/Bare, on the border line in northern Kosovo. But, officials in Belgrade said they were arrested by the anti-terror units of the Serbian gendarmerie.
The country's Tresave/Bare is located in the Leposaviqi municipality, and according to Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is located about 300m inside Kosovo's territory.
Meanwhile, according to a Kosovo Police report, the police unit has been conducting a “patrol within Kosovo's territory” to prevent the use of illegal routes, which according to this institution is exploited by criminal groups” for illegal and smuggling.
Police said the unit, comprised of three border officials, has announced they have observed masked and armed persons and from seeking assistance and other police units have been launched.
After arriving at that location, the assisting unit only noticed the official car, but not the police officials themselves who were in charge of that location. Other police units have immediately gone towards this location, as have other security institutions, including KFOR, as police officials are suspected to have been kidnapped by Serbian forces”, the report says.
At a media conference, Bucki Kelani from Kosovo Police called the move “kidnapping classic” by Serb special units forces.
He said Serbia has kidnapped Kosovo police in the past, as in 2011, when, according to him, two Kosovo police officials were kidnapped.
Kosovo Police are concerned and condemn the classic kidnapping. We assure our citizens that Kosovo Police will continue with high commitment to carry out their constitutional and legal duties”, Kelani said.
He accused Serbia of using the kidnappings of police officials to destabilise the north and “to protect criminals”.
Kelani said police officials are patrol officers, and peacekeepers.
“I want to assure you that they are three officials of the age postponed by 50 or even over 50”, he said.
