“KFOR strongly condemns attacks on journalists in northern Kosovo during the exercise of their profession. Freedom of the press and freedom of expression are fundamental values that must be respected by all. We call on all sides to refrain from further violence or actions that could lead to further escalation and ensure that the media can do their basic work safely”, the communiqué says.
“After the May 29th incidents, when a large number of KFOR peacekeepers were injured in unprotested attacks, KFOR troops have been deployed around northern municipal buildings to help prevent further clashes. KFOR remains the third reacter, and Kosovo Police remain responsible for ensuring rule of law throughout Kosovo”.
“KFOR continues to carry out its mandate impartially, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 in 1999, and fully supports the EU-launched dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina as the only way ahead of”.
