Government for EU sanctions: Any provision would be unjust

The Kosovo government said they have not received any official announcement that the European Union has taken sanctions against Kosovo due to the failure to rule out the situation in the north. “We continue to believe that any moves towards Kosovo would be unfair and unorthodox1>, the Government's spokesman, Free Europe, Kryeziu, told Radio Europe. “We continue to believe that any moves towards Kosovo would be unfair and unorthodox1>, the Government's spokesman, Free Europe, Kryeziu, told Radio Europe.
He added that “is hard to reason on how the European Union can take negative measures against Kosovo”.
“ [The European Union] in its latest country report [Kosovo] describes in the most positive light ever, both in the fight against crime and corruption, both in democratisation, both in economic development and in advancing the legal framework in line with the EU acquis”, he said.
Some diplomatic sources have told Radio Free Europe on 13 June that the European Union has prepared initial measures, such as sanctions against Kosovo, due to the failure to ignore calls for immediate steps by the Kosovo government for lowering tensions in the north.
While on 14 June, European Union spokesman Peter Stano said the EU does not rule out the possibility of Kosovo facing other measures, unless the government of this country meets international requirements.
“has a set of measures, or proposals for a set of measures. Some of them have already entered into force immediately. Some of them are still being discussed and member states will gradually implement, if there is no change in the approach of Kosovo authorities. The spectre is relatively broad”, Stano said during a news conference.
The EU and the United States have submitted three demands to Kurti: calming the situation in the north, holding new elections in four municipalities in the north, and returning to dialogue on normalising Kosovo-Serbia reports.
But Kurt has put forward a five-point plan.
Kurti's five-point plan to reduce tensions in the north
- Law rule in four municipalities in the north, meaning identification, prosecution and fair trial of all members of criminal groups that have attacked police, NATO troops and journalists
- Violent groups withdraw immediately from Kosovo territory, any criminal act against Kosovo institutions
- Kosovo police, NATO and EULEX members conduct joint security assessments to ensure a safe and safe environment for all.
- Kosovo government to co-ordinate with all actors and announce early elections in four municipalities in the north
- Kosovo and Serbia to return dialogue mediated by Brussels, and a summit to be held this week
Kosovo and its institutions all they are seeking and aiming for is respecting the Constitution and rule of law. These are European Union values. European Union has special missions in Kosovo for Endim of Law called EULEX”, Kryeziu added.
Tensions in northern Kosovo, inhabited by Serb majority, have increased since May 26th, when Kosovo Police helped Albanian mayors Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq settle in municipal facilities despite the resistance of local residents.
These leaders were elected on April 23rd, votes that were boycotted by Serb parties and local populations.
