Security expert Adrian Steuni in a live link from Washington for “Special Report” said the crisis in northern Kosovo could have been avoided. He stressed that the Serb actions are punishable as he criticised Albin Kurti's stance by not listening to international allies.
“was an avoidable crisis, the actions of some Serbian circles are punishable, it is known that they seek destabilisation and the sabotage situation towards the state of Kosovo and must be condemned very clearly, at the same time as those who have created problems by attacking KFOR. I said this was something that should have been avoided because it was warned. Even Mr. Kurt was given advice on how to behave, but he decided not to listen to them and had a cost that we saw, refusing to approach US and other allies. Did Kurt really think that this type of crisis and escalation would not occur? Or he thought this escalation would be an acceptable cost for a purpose that should be articulated.“, the expert said.
The expert stressed that the Kosovo government's actions have caused internationals to shift from conditioning approach to threatening one and that it is necessary to change. According to him, the sooner Kosovo realises that there is no way out without meeting conditions from the EU, the better it will be for it.
And if you look at Borrell in the last sentence, he said there would be serious consequences. For me, this is disturbing even though the approach has gone from conditioning to threatening. This is where the current approach has taken place and has to change. As far as elections are concerned, I have said before that governance is not the goal in itself. These mayors have been elected legally, but they have no legislation. If you're worried about governance, you need a mayor who's chosen from a higher percentage of government. First to reduce tensions, the protests stop normalising the situation, to continue with the Ohrid Agreement, and the storm is association. There is no way out of these types of obligations, the sooner it is understood the better it will be for Kosovo.”, the expert concluded. /abcnews. al
