Sayfullo Saipov killed eight people after stepping onto his truck, the pedestrians and riders on the streets of Manhattan in 2017.
He was sentenced to ten life sentences, plus 260 years, and will never be released from prison.
During the sentence's proclamation, the court said it has “destroyed many lives”. Saipov did not show regret during the trial.
Saipov has faced the victims' families and survivors in the court, and the judge noted that the defendant was “ably unforgiving”.
Saipov, Uzbek citizen, 35, had been using a rented truck to carry out the attack in New York in 2017.
He had shouted “The Lord is the great” in Arabic and was shot by police after leaving the truck. Saipov had hoped this act would make him part of the militant group, the Islamic State.
Saipov is expected to serve his sentence at a high-security prison in Colorado, where prisoners spend up to 23 hours a day locked in their cells.
Five of Saipov's victims were tourists from Argentina, a 31-year-old woman from Belgium. Two Americans were among the victims, while 12 others were injured.
Addressing the court before the sentence was pronounced, Saipov seemed to repeat praise for the terrorist group and suggested he was not affected by the evidence he had heard.
He escaped the death penalty after a jury last week failed to reach a unanimous decision on the issue.
