The Swiss Federal Council through a communique for the media has indicated that today they have approved the necessary changes in line with the European Parliament's decision and the European Council for visa liberalisation for Kosovars. From January 1st, 2024, Kosovars will be obliged to obtain visas if they want to visit Switzerland for a stay of up to 90 days maximum.

Kosovo has met all conditions for visas that connect to security, border controls and migration. For this reason, the European Parliament and the Council I Be have approved the regulation on April 19th 2023 that excludes Kosovars from the demand to be equipped with visas for short stay of 90 days. Biiometric passport equipment required. As a country in the Schengen area, Switzerland is committed to adopting further developments within “Schengen Actis””, said in communiqué.

The Federal Council explains that adoption of these changes under Schengen also requires modification of the Order for entry and visa issuing (VEV).

This change of the Order will take effect on January 1st, 2024”, says the announcement.

Meanwhile, they explain that visa equipment continues to be needed to work in Switzerland.
