Quint States, France, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States of America have said the April 23rd elections in Kosovo's four northern municipalities have been held in line with Kosovo's constitutional and legal requirements.
However, these states say that as a result of boycott by the Serb community, their results are not long-term political solutions for these municipalities.
On April 23rd, four parties of municipal elections and two parties of municipal assembly were held in northern Kosovo, in accordance with Kosovo's constitutional and legal requirements. The Quint States has called on all actors who urgently work together among all interested parties, including local communities, towards a solution that ensures stable participation democracies in these municipalities.
There should be no actions or initiatives involving newly elected mayors and municipal municipalities that do not serve the people or that may increase tensions. That includes exercising more than administrative competencies and the process of taking office, since it is not required that municipal mayors take the oath at municipal offices. All sides should refrain from using force or actions that fuel tensions or spur conflict”, the Quint states say.
In the end, the “large key” says it supports the EU facilitated dialogue on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, including the need for urgent progress in establishing the majority Serbian Commission Association.
