He issued these statements on May 15th, a day after Ukrainian leader Voldymyr Zelensky visited Paris on his second visit to France since Russia began invasion of Ukraine in February last year.
We have opened the door for pilot training along with several other European states that are willing to do the same. I think decisions are being made along with Americans”, he said during an interview for the TF1 broadcaster.
“Training can start immediately”, Macro added without providing more details.
After months of impasse, Ukraine is preparing to regain Russia's occupied territory and is receiving military assistance from allies for the new counteroffensive.
Zelensky has been calling for modern fighter planes, such as American F-16s, but NATO members have so far refused to send fighter planes to Kiev.
Macron also said France would train several battalions for the use of light tanks and armoured vehicles.
During Zelensky's visit to Paris, Macron has promised to boost military assistance to Ukraine. / REL
