According to a statement posted on the Telegram message app, Serhiy Popko, the head of the city's military administration, Kiev, described Russia's latest air strike as unprecedented in its intensity, with the largest number of offensive missiles released for a short time.
According to preliminary information, the vast majority of the enemy's targets in Kiev airspace were detected and” destroyed, Popko said.
The number of targets hit and destroyed during the air strike in Kiev is not known at the moment.
Russia had suspended its long-range missile attacks for several weeks but resumed the tactic in late April, launching numerous attacks in recent days, with Kiev being a frequent target.
Despite the attacks, Ukraine has successfully rejected most of them.
According to officials, the remains of the missiles fell into several Kiev districts, including Obolonski, Shevchenkivski, Solomyanski and Darnitski, on Tuesday.
Kiev Mayor Vitaly Klitschko reported that the remains that burned many cars and caused damage to a building in the Solomyansky neighbourhood in the western part of the capital.
Three people have been injured in the event.
According to Klitschkos, a drone attack was averted from the air defence systems south of Borispilly.
Borispil is located southeast of Kiev and is home to the capital's main civilian airport, which is currently closed.
The military administration reported that the damage to other circles was not large and there was no immediate information on possible victims.
Air strike sirens were heard almost across the country for more than three hours Tuesday, in Kiev and the surrounding area.
