Their transfer to Kosovo for the suffering of punishment is still in question.
From the Northern Macedonia Justice Ministry, they say this can be considered after Kosovo institutions recognise the decisions of Macedonian courts.
Kosovo's “Authority must first recognise the judgments of our courts. The documentation has not yet been completed, after completion, possible variants will be considered and in co-ordination with the MPB, and Kosovo authorities will be determined if there is a possibility for such a thing”, the Macedonian Ministry's response said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice in Kosovo has stressed that there is currently no active request for the transfer of convicts, but letting it open the possibility of engagement in the event such a demand comes in the future.
The moment I accept any requests, the Justice Ministry will take all actions defined in the law under the legal mandate and will immediately submit the request or request to the Constitutional Court in Pristina for further procedures”, the Justice Ministry's response to the 1st.
Based on legislation in force and agreements between Kosovo and Northern Macedonia, according to Anton Noecaj from the CLARD Institute, the transfer of prisoners is impossible.
7 of the accused in the Kumanovo case are sentenced to life in prison, while others are in total for 746 years.
They were tried as organisers of the events at “Trima sector” in Kumanovo in May 2015, where 8 Macedonian police officers, 10 protesters were killed, and 37 officers were injured.
